Meta AI Ads: 4M Advertisers, One Algorithm, Zero Control?

Meta Advantage+ delivers 41% higher ROAS and now serves 4 million advertisers. But as AI takes over bidding, creative, and targeting, what's left for marketers to own?

Analysis AI Marketing automation business

Six months ago, 1 million advertisers were using Meta’s generative AI tools. Today that number is 4 million. This isn’t adoption velocity. It’s a structural shift in how advertising on Meta works.

Advantage+ Is Winning - The Numbers Are Clear

Meta’s AI-automated campaign system now shows consistent outperformance against manual campaigns:

  • 41% higher blended ROAS compared to manual campaign management (Campaign India, 2026)
  • 17% lower customer acquisition cost for new buyers
  • Q4 2025 model rollout: 24% increase in incremental conversions
  • Advantage+ campaigns generating approximately $60 billion in annualized revenue across the Meta ecosystem

These aren’t pilot program numbers. 3.5 billion people use at least one Meta app daily. Every click, scroll, and purchase feeds continuously into the model.

In July 2026, Meta added Muse Image - the first image generation model from Meta Superintelligence Labs - directly into Advantage+ creative. Advertisers no longer need to supply design assets. Describe the product, the system generates the image.

Behind “AI Automated”: Fragmentation Is Getting Worse

Basis research (2026) shows the actual agency-side picture:

  • 36.8% of agencies now manage 10+ tools simultaneously - double the 2024 share
  • 44.1% cite inefficient processes as their top operational pain
  • Only 29.1% of agencies use AI for media planning, despite it being the highest-leverage use case

The critical warning here is what Basis calls “black-box optimization” - platforms that self-optimize without giving marketers the ability to audit, override, or understand why the AI made a particular decision. Advantage+ is the clearest example of this tension. You supply the creative, set the budget, choose the objective - and the system decides everything else. Performance? Usually strong. Control? Minimal.

The Global Ad Market Is Re-Pricing Around AI

AI isn’t just changing how ads run. It’s repricing the entire industry.

The AI-in-advertising market is expanding from $11.17 billion (2025) to a projected $36.34 billion by 2030 - a 26.7% CAGR (GlobeNewswire, 2026). The main players: Google, Meta, Amazon, TikTok, The Trade Desk. They are racing to build infrastructure, not features.

Meta has announced $125-145 billion per year in AI infrastructure investment - funded almost entirely through advertising revenue. This creates a closed loop: advertisers pay Meta to build better AI, better AI means advertisers must spend more to stay competitive.

Total Meta advertising revenue is projected at $240 billion for 2026, a 22.3% increase year-over-year (Campaign India, 2026). Reels accounts for 45% of Instagram engagement and 29% on Facebook. Facebook video watch time grew 8% quarter-over-quarter globally.

Vietnam’s $5.39B Market Is Underinvested in AI Strategy

Vietnam’s digital ad market is forecast to reach $5.39 billion in 2026, growing at 9.1% annually (Yahoo Finance). Meta/Facebook holds a 19.2% market share, behind Google at 28.4%.

79 million social media users. 91% CTV penetration. 11.7 million Instagram users as of late 2025.

Are Vietnamese marketers running Advantage+? Most are - but reactively: turning features on because Meta recommends them, not because they understand the mechanics. That’s the critical gap.

Small advertisers in Vietnam now have access to the same AI infrastructure as global brands - same technology, comparable cost. But only those who bring strong creative strategy and first-party data to the table will actually leverage it. Those who simply enable Advantage+ and wait for results will see decent performance - identical to every competitor in their category doing exactly the same thing.

NateCue's Take

The real risk isn't that Meta's AI performs badly. It's that it performs so well that advertisers outsource their entire strategy to a black box. When every competitor runs the same Advantage+ setup with the same AI-generated creatives, the algorithm commoditizes the playing field. What breaks the tie? First-party data - customer lists, email segments, branded community signals that Meta can't replicate from someone else's audience. Vietnam's market is particularly exposed here: 79 million social media users, high Meta dependency, but low investment in owned data infrastructure. Brands that build that moat now will outperform regardless of what Meta's next model can do.
